    What affects gift card rates?

Gift card rates are always a bit high during the festive period, like December. The end of the year is always a peak period for all industries, especially the e-commerce industry, a lot of businesses just want to stock up, which increases the demand for gift cards.

Hook gift card rates are above the market average because we have customers’ interests at heart.

Also, gift card prices increase during the holiday season, when many people are at home. This means more people are likely to play mobile games, which in turn increases the demand for gaming gift cards like Steam, Playstation, Xbox and Google Play.

However, in response to the end-of-the-year rush, the e-commerce market is bound to adjust, and so the demand for payment methods like gift cards will drop around January. This contributes to relatively lower gift card rates in the early part of the year.

In short, it’s all demand and supply. But rest assured, Hook will give you the best.

    Xbox gift card

Xbox Gift Card Rates by Region in Nigeria (2026)

Hook accepts Xbox gift cards from multiple regions — not just the US. Here is the NGN rate per unit for each region:

Xbox RegionRate per Dollar/Euro (NGN)Best Denomination
    Xbox US (Physical)980 NGN/USD$50 – $500
    Xbox UK (Physical)1,128 NGN/GBP equiv.€50 – €500
    Xbox EUR All Countries (Physical)945 NGN/EUR equiv.€50 – €500
    Xbox CAD (Physical)633 NGN/CAD equiv.$50 – $500
    Xbox AUD (Physical)684 NGN/AUD equiv.$50 – $500

US Xbox cards typically offer the best naira rate per dollar, while UK cards are close behind. Hook is one of the few platforms in Nigeria that accepts all five Xbox regions.

Why Does the Naira Value of an Xbox Gift Card Change?

    • USD/Naira Exchange Rate: The parallel market rate shifts daily. When the dollar strengthens, your card pays more naira.
    • Card Region: US-issued cards generally trade higher than CAD or AUD cards due to stronger dollar demand.
    • Card Type — E-code vs Physical: Digital e-codes verify faster and often attract a small rate premium over physical cards.
    • Market Demand: When many Nigerians sell Xbox cards at once, rates can dip slightly. Hook’s large buyer network absorbs this better than smaller platforms.
    • Card Denomination: Larger cards ($200–$500) often yield a better per-dollar rate.
    • Region Restrictions: Some Xbox cards are region-locked; US and UK cards are the most universally accepted and trade at premium rates.
Pro Tip: Sell as soon as you receive your Xbox gift card. Every day you wait, the exchange rate can move against you. Check hook.ng for the live rate before trading.

An Xbox gift card is a prepaid card or digital code produced by Microsoft’s Xbox brand. It can be redeemed on the Xbox platform to purchase games, downloadable content (DLC), Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, and other digital products from the Xbox Marketplace.

Xbox is one of the world’s leading gaming platforms, offering consoles (Xbox Series X/S), controllers, headsets, and a vast library of online games. Xbox gift cards are highly popular globally and command strong resale value in Nigeria — making them one of the best gift cards to trade for Naira.

Types of Xbox Gift Cards Accepted on Hook

    • Physical Xbox Gift Cards — Tangible cards with a scratch-off PIN, purchased from retail stores like Walmart, Target, GameStop, or Best Buy.
    • Xbox E-Codes (Digital Gift Cards) — Codes delivered by email or SMS. Faster to verify, often fetch a slightly better Naira rate.
    • Xbox Receipt Cards — Issued with certain purchases. Hook accepts these subject to verification.
