    GIFT CARD – DEFINITION

gift card is also known as a gift certificate in North America, or gift voucher or gift token in the UK is a prepaid stored-value money card, usually issued by a retailer or bank, to be used as an alternative to cash for purchases within a particular store or related businesses.

Gift cards are also given out by employers or organizations as rewards or gifts.

They may also be distributed by retailers and marketers as part of a promotion strategy, to entice the recipient to come in or return to the store, and at times such cards are called cash cards.

Gift cards are generally redeemable only for purchases at the relevant retail premises and cannot be cashed out, and in some situations may be subject to an expiry date or fees.

American ExpressMasterCard, and Visa offer generic gift cards that need not be redeemed at particular stores, which are widely used for cashback marketing strategies.

A feature of these cards is that they are generally anonymous and are disposed of when the stored value on a card is exhausted.

From the purchaser’s point of view, a gift card is a gift, given in place of an object which the recipient may not need, when the giving of cash as a present may be regarded as socially inappropriate.

Hook provides higher than the average rates to convert gift card to naira or cedis, which is because we have the interest of customers at heart. So, you can be rest assured that the rate you see on this page is the best.

    What affects gift card rates?

Gift card rates are always a bit high during the festive period, like December. The end of the year is always a peak period for all industries, especially the e-commerce industry, a lot of businesses just want to stock up, which increases the demand for gift cards.

Hook gift card rates are above the market average because we have customers’ interests at heart.

Also, gift card prices increase during the holiday season, when many people are at home. This means more people are likely to play mobile games, which in turn increases the demand for gaming gift cards like Steam, Playstation, Xbox and Google Play.

However, in response to the end-of-the-year rush, the e-commerce market is bound to adjust, and so the demand for payment methods like gift cards will drop around January. This contributes to relatively lower gift card rates in the early part of the year.

In short, it’s all demand and supply. But rest assured, Hook will give you the best.

Steam gift cards consistently rank among the top-paying cards in Nigeria, making them one of the smartest gift cards to trade in 2026.

5 Factors That Affect Your $100 Steam Gift Card Rate in Naira

Understanding these variables helps you trade at the right time and get maximum value:

    1. Card Region (US vs UK vs Canada vs Europe vs Australia)

US Steam gift cards command the highest Naira rates because they are the easiest to verify and redeem globally. A $100 US Steam card will almost always pay more than an equivalent UK or Canadian card.

    2. Card Type: eCode (Digital) vs Physical Card

eCodes — digital codes delivered via email — typically fetch higher rates than physical cards. They’re faster to verify, lower risk for the platform, and process in seconds. If you have a physical card, expect a slightly lower payout compared to the same denomination as an eCode.

    3. Naira–Dollar Exchange Rate

The official and parallel market Naira exchange rate directly moves Steam gift card rates. When the Naira weakens against the Dollar, your $100 card pays out more Naira automatically. Rates on Hook reflect the current market in real time.

    4. Market Demand and Seasonal Timing

Demand for Steam cards spikes during gaming sales events (Steam Summer Sale, Winter Sale, Black Friday). During these periods, buyers pay premium prices for Steam wallet credit — which pushes Naira rates higher for sellers. Selling during high-demand windows maximises your payout.

    5. Card Validity and Condition

Only unused, valid, and fully unscratched cards are accepted. Partially redeemed, expired, or region-locked cards will not be processed. Always confirm your card is active and unredeemed before submitting.

What Is a Steam Gift Card?

A Steam gift card is a prepaid voucher that adds funds directly to your Steam Wallet. Steam is the world’s largest PC gaming platform, used by over 130 million active users globally. With Steam wallet credit, you can:

    • Buy PC games, indie titles, and AAA releases.
    • Purchase in-game items, skins, and cosmetics.
    • Download DLC (Downloadable Content) and expansions.
    • Subscribe to gaming services and tools.
    • Gift credit to other Steam users.

Steam gift cards come in physical (scratch-to-reveal) and digital eCode formats, in multiple currencies including USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, and AUD. In Nigeria, they’re one of the most actively traded gift cards because of their high demand and strong Naira conversion rates.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How much is a $100 Steam gift card in Naira today?

As of August 2026, a $100 Steam gift card is worth between ₦125,000 and ₦190,000 on Hook, depending on the card region, type (eCode vs physical), and current exchange rate. US eCodes fetch the highest rates.

Q: Can I sell a $100 Steam gift card in Nigeria?

Yes, absolutely. Steam gift cards — including US, UK, European, Canadian, and Australian cards — can be sold for Naira on Hook. Digital eCodes are preferred and processed instantly.

Q: How fast do I get paid after selling on Hook?

Hook verifies Steam gift cards almost instantly. Once verification is complete, your Naira payout is sent directly to your bank account, usually within a few minutes.

Q: Do digital eCodes pay more than physical Steam cards?

Yes. eCodes are easier to verify and process, so they typically attract a slightly higher Naira rate compared to physical cards of the same denomination.

Q: Which Steam gift card region pays the most in Nigeria?

US Steam gift cards (USD) consistently pay the highest Naira rates in Nigeria. UK (GBP) comes second, followed by European (EUR) and Canadian (CAD) cards.

Q: Can I sell a partially used or expired Steam gift card?

No. Only unused, valid, and fully active Steam gift cards are accepted. Partially redeemed or expired cards cannot be processed on Hook.

Q: Are there fees when selling on Hook?

Hook is transparent about its fee structure — any applicable fee is clearly shown in the app before you confirm your transaction. There are no hidden charges.

Q: Can I convert my Steam card to another gift card instead of cash?

Yes, some platforms allow gift card swaps (e.g., Steam for Google Play or Xbox). Hook’s primary service is converting gift cards to Naira cash, but you can check the app for any available swap features.
