    GIFT CARD β€“ DEFINITION

A gift card is also known as a gift certificate in North America, or gift voucher or gift token in the UK is a prepaid stored-value money card, usually issued by a retailer or bank, to be used as an alternative to cash for purchases within a particular store or related businesses.

Gift cards are also given out by employers or organizations as rewards or gifts.

They may also be distributed by retailers and marketers as part of a promotion strategy, to entice the recipient to come in or return to the store, and at times such cards are called cash cards.

Gift cards are generally redeemable only for purchases at the relevant retail premises and cannot be cashed out, and in some situations may be subject to an expiry date or fees.

American Express, MasterCard, and Visa offer generic gift cards that need not be redeemed at particular stores, which are widely used for cashback marketing strategies.

A feature of these cards is that they are generally anonymous and are disposed of when the stored value on a card is exhausted.

From the purchaser’s point of view, a gift card is a gift, given in place of an object which the recipient may not need, when the giving of cash as a present may be regarded as socially inappropriate.

Just make sure to know its value in local currency and find the best platform to sell your gift cards in Nigeria.

    Types Of Sephora Gift Cards

Note that the Sephora gift card exists in two main types.

    1. Physical Sephora Gift Card

This is one of the types of Nordstrom you can buy. It’s the first type of Sephora gift card that was issued and is branded with the Sephora brand logo. If you are living near any Sephora store, you can easily get the physical type. It’s like a card in plastic or paper form. You can buy a physical Sephora gift card within the range of $25 and $500. Customization options are also available when you want to make a purchase.

    2. Digital Sephora Gift Card

This is always the best option for me because of the convenience it offers with purchase. It’s the newest type of gift card issued by Sephora. It’s in the form of an E-code sent to your email address after purchase. This cannot be purchased at the physical stores and it can only be delivered electronically. If you are buying it as a gift, you can request a personalized design. The same denomination for the physical type applies to this. Both types do not expire, so you’ve got the ball in your court. You can redeem the gift card anytime you are ready.

    About rates on Hook

Hook’s rates update continuously, so the numbers on this page reflect the current market as closely as possible. Prices you see now may shift within minutes as demand for specific cards changes β€” if you’ve had this tab open for a while, refresh before locking in a trade.

Every rate reflects live buyer demand, not a fixed markup. When a card is in high demand, its rate on Hook tends to rise; when demand drops, so does the price. You’re seeing what the market is actually paying, updated automatically as it changes.

Hook currently supports a wide range of card types for trading, including Steam, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Razer Gold, Apple Store, Visa, American Express, PlayStation, Xbox, Walmart, Sephora, and dozens more. Whether you’re asking “how much is my gift card worth in Nigeria” or comparing rates across platforms, this page is built to answer that in real time. You can also see our full gift card trading options for Nigeria and Ghana.

    What moves gift card rates?

Rates aren’t arbitrary β€” they track supply and demand like any market. Around December, e-commerce activity spikes as businesses and shoppers stock up for the holidays, which pushes gift card demand β€” and rates β€” higher. Gaming cards in particular, like Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, tend to climb during this period as more people are home and playing.

Once the holiday rush passes, demand cools off in January and February, and rates typically dip back down as the market resets.

Beyond seasonality, individual card rates move based on how easily that card can be redeemed, current buyer appetite for that brand, and broader currency conditions. Hook’s calculator reflects all of that automatically β€” no manual updates, no guesswork.
